Introduction
Historically, companies have been required to report upon their financial performance, but with the Climate Change Act requiring the Government to report to Parliament in 2012 on whether or not it intends to mandate corporate carbon reporting, increasing numbers of organisations are producing sustainability reports.
But what are the key barriers to meaningful reporting for property developers, investors and owners and significant occupiers and how can these be overcome and are there benefits to sustainability reporting outside of regulatory compliance? And are the challenges the same for everyone in the supply chain?
The BPF, UK Green Building Council and Hermes Real Estate have partnered with the Global Reporting Initiative to determine corporate sustainability reporting guidelines for construction and real estate companies, in the form of a GRI Construction and Real Estate Sector Supplement – ‘CRESS’.
As part of a consultation process on the guidelines before further consideration, we would like to invite you to participate in a workshop seeking your views on the draft guidelines and broader views on sustainability reporting for now and in the future.
