Established in 1967, Hamiltons Architects is a highly successful, award-winning, design led architectural practice. Based in London with over 270 staff members, Hamiltons has a diversity of skills and expertise in architecture and masterplanning spanning residential, offices, hospitality, cultural, education, industrial and transport infrastructure projects. In recent years the practice has undergone an exciting process of transition responding to an increasingly diverse and demanding range of projects.
Today, working in a well resourced and dynamic studio environment, Hamiltons is dedicated to the creation of fresh and progressive architecture that works. This is achieved by drawing on a mix of creative ingenuity and commercial insight - together with decades of cutting edge experience.
Sustainability touches every aspect of our work. We continually strive to achieve more using less. That means reducing our dependency on non-renewable resources and energy together with the resulting carbon dioxide emissions.
Technically advanced systems can often be successfully employed in reducing environmental impact. However, many of the most environmentally sustainable design solutions exploit passive measures and technologies which maximise the effects of daylight, shading, natural ventilation, thermal mass and suitable local resources.
Designing buildings that make sound commercial sense and satisfy the demands of sustainability is a real challenge. Our office now has considerable experience in this field with staff who have worked on a wide range of successful, ecological, low energy buildings ranging in scale and use. These skills form an integral part of our design process.
Global warming and climate change mean sustainable design has never been more important. Buildings consume half of the energy used in the developed world. The quality of their design can reduce energy consumption, create a more productive environment and reduce dependency on inefficient transport by influencing transport patterns through urban planning.
Designing with sustainability in mind requires an integrated approach that includes everything from initial siting to the orientation on the site, the sourcing of materials, approach to environmental systems and the use of renewable energy both in the design and in the process of manufacturing.

Hawkins Brown Architects LLP
Hawkins\Brown treats sustainability as a holistic philosophy. Not only do we work with leading consultants to research and develop sustainable design principles and solutions for our projects, but we endeavour to run our office to minimise energy consumption and waste.
We believe a sustainable project should not only be energy efficient but beautiful and popular; not only make the best use of land and resources but be adaptable to accommodate future change; not only protect and enhance biodiversity when built but be durable and easy to maintain.
A key part of sustainability is to ensure the built environment works hard for its users and is loved enough to be maintained. Places that are safe and accessible physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually will provide longer lasting architecture, reducing the use of precious resources. We put the effort into designing projects to ensure this happens.

Histoglass Ltd
Histoglass glazing systems were specifically developed as an energy saving, thermally efficient solution for the restoration of existing buildings. The thin double glazing is of particular importance for the renovation of historic or listed buildings, and properties situated within conservation areas. Histoglass is suitable for both new and existing timber and metal window frames.
Our 10mm thin double glazing for instance, is the thinnest available on the market and is the result of extensive research. It can be installed into the narrow glazing bars of existing window frames, therefore eliminating the need for the manufacturing of new window frames.
It is backed by a 7 year guarantee and fully complies with the British/European standard BS EN 1279 (parts 1-6).
The systems are available in a wide range of thicknesses and glass types to suit the age of a building, each with differing thermal and acoustic insulation properties.
We try, through our marketing, to educate and inform on the benefits of the preservation of our built heritage. Historically we have all been part of a 'throwaway culture', where even substantial capital purchases are expected to have a limited shelf life. 85% of manufactured items quickly become waste. Our message suggests 'inspiration can be found in the resilience of traditional building materials'. Ultimately, the beauty of good design is not ecologically irrelevant - we work to save what we love.

We’re engineers. We work closely with architects to design buildings that really work. This means we’re concerned with the big picture and the small detail of buildings.
In a traditional sense we are building services engineers. But our approach is broad as well as specific. We engineer air, light, sound, energy. In doing so we cross boundaries between engineering disciplines because that breadth of vision achieves the best buildings for our clients.
We solve problems through engineering, always aiming to create solutions that combine elegance with practicability. Our approach has sustainability as an inherent objective, and has done so since we began our practice more than 40 years ago.

Nicholas Hare Architects LLP
Nicholas Hare Architects was formed in 1977. The practice became a Limited Liability Partnership in 2004. The practice is organised in open studios. Teams are formed for each project and each team has a designated project leader. At present we are 54 people, 45 of whom are architects, handling a wide range of projects. Most of our commissions have come through recommendations from previous clients, though the practice's reputation has been enhanced by success in architectural competitions for public buildings.
The strength of the practice stems from its combination of energy and inventiveness with a professional sense of responsibility to clients. The commitment to excellence and thoroughness in design is matched by the importance attached to the efficient and cost-conscious running of contracts: we have a wide experience of working with traditional forms of contract as well as with management contracts, construction management and 2-stage collaborative contracts.
We have a history of achieving good value for our clients, through attention to detail and the pursuit of good quality and low maintenance, particularly in the building envelope: many of the buildings designed by the practice have cost much less than their quality would suggest.
Our service responds to the needs of clients, ranging from complete building projects including project management to strategic planning and consultancy. Our record of satisfied clients and second and third commissions is testimony to the care devoted to understanding and responding to the real needs of our clients, as well as producing buildings which give pleasure to those who use them.

Treasury Holdings UK Ltd
The purchase of the Battersea Power Station site in December 2006 marked Real Estate Opportunities Limited’s first significant acquisition in the UK for a number of years. Treasury Holdings owns a majority shareholding in REO and Treasury Holdings UK is appointed as development manager for the project. Set alongside 380 meters of River Thames frontage within the London Borough of Wandsworth, the site is under a mile and a half from Knightsbridge and under two miles from Oxford Street and the heart of London’s West End. The Power Station building is one of the most recognisable landmark buildings in London and one of the largest brick buildings in Europe. The site represents one of the largest regeneration projects in Central London. A full range of advisors has been engaged including Rafael Vinoly Architects to produce a new masterplan. The intention is to create a sustainable scheme in keeping with the importance of the site and the heritage building, which is both commercially viable and deliverable. On the 20th June 2008 the masterplan for the site was launched. The masterplan proposes the reuse of the power station building for a mix of retail, residential and hotel uses. A new landmark building is proposed next to the power station containing commercial uses in the most sustainable building ever built in the UK.
Masterplan
During 2007 it was decided that the existing planning permission did not optimise the development potential for the site nor meet the emerging planning guidance for the area. In April 2007 world renown architect Rafael Vinoly was appointed to produce a new masterplan. The new professional team has approached the development afresh with the aim of producing a truly robust, deliverable scheme that combines the best practice in policy terms with a sustainable, exemplar development for London. It is also the intention that the development becomes a catalyst project for the wider redevelopment of the Nine Elms corridor.
To support this broader regeneration of the area, the Greater London Authority has begun work on the production of a dedicated Opportunity Area Planning Framework (“OAPF”). This statutory document, building on recent alterations to the London Plan, will specifically address the Nine Elms corridor and is expected to be complete in early 2009. Following the current consultation process on the masterplan, the immediate timetable is to finish the masterplan design process during the current year and submit a new planning application early in 2009. The scheme will comprise a mixed development of residential, office, retail and leisure elements. Since purchasing the Power Station site REO has acquired nearby sites in Battersea at Stewart’s Road, Kirtling Street and Brooks Court. In addition, vital remedial works to the Power Station building are currently underway at the site.
