The Register of Plumbers and Heating Professionals is regulated by the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE). The CIPHE is the UK professional body for the sector and is a registered charity with objects that include protection of the environment and the health and safety of the public. Plumbing and heating professionals who are entered onto the register will have the minimum industry qualification requirement, be qualified to the water regulations, undertake regular continuing professional development which includes up to date information on water efficient and micro-generation technologies. They also agree to be bound by a code of professional standards which governs their technical and personal behaviour. The CIPHE operates a Registration Authority which can discipline transgression from the code; the ultimate sanction is to strike the individual off the register.
