World GBC
The UK Green Building Council is part of a global network of GBCs collectively known as the World Green Building Council.
The World GBC supports national Green Building Councils whose common mission is to create a sustainable built environment through market transformation. David Gottfried, founder of the U.S. Green Building Council, announced the WorldGBC in 1998 at the kick-off of the Japan Green Building Council in Nagoya, Japan. The WorldGBC held its founding meeting in November of 1999 in San Francisco, California USA, with eight countries in attendance.
There are currently 10 existing national councils and a further 16 countries with emerging GBCs. Current members are GBCAustralia, CanadaGBC, EmiratesGBC, IndiaGBC, JapanSBC, MexicoGBC, New Zealand GBC, TaiwanGBC, USGBC and the UK-GBC. Collectively, these nations represent over 50% of global construction activity, and touch more than eight thousand companies and organizations worldwide. WorldGBC members are leading the movement that is globalizing environmentally and socially responsible building practices. Its objective is to rapidly build an international coalition that represents the entire global property industry.
