2021 will be the 8th year that UKGBC convenes a group of Future Leaders comprised of committed, enthusiastic individuals presented with the challenge of confronting critical issues facing the industry, including the climate crisis, while working collaboratively to address them through the development of innovative ideas to inspire the radical transformation of the built environment.

The five-month Future Leaders programme is designed for forward-thinking professionals with 5-10 years’ experience – the cohort will work in teams and develop the capability and skills to drive radical transformation and sustainability, while progressing and boosting confidence in their own individual leadership journeys. They then return to their respective organisations equipped with this new thinking and inspiration, joining a leadership alumni of over 200 individuals and continuing to collaborate through involvement in the Future Leadership Forum.

Future Leaders are drawn from a range of backgrounds from the built environment sector, and are selected based on an enthusiasm to learn, an openness to new ways of thinking, and a desire to challenge the status quo. It is not a prerequisite to have sustainability in the job title – in fact the diversity of perspectives is crucial to the programme’s success.

See below for testimonials and impact stories.

“It has been an enlightening experience working alongside this group of talented future leaders and I have enjoyed the open and supportive environment which has been created to explore our leadership styles. One of my key takeaways from this course is not to underestimate the power of using your personal passion and purpose in business, using it to lead others and collectively change mindsets away from ‘business as usual’ to help tackle the climate crisis. Elfrida has led by example throughout this insightful course and her passion has infectiously flowed into every session.” – Charlotte Sythes, Grosvenor

“The Future Leaders 2020 programme has far exceeded any expectations. From working with a like-minded, supportive cohort of other Future Leaders to listening to a range of engaging speakers and industry professionals, has provided me with the vital skills of confidently and effectively communicating ideas – no matter how abstract! I would recommend the Future Leaders programme to those wanting to make a lasting and sustainable impact to our built environment.” – Matt Lindsay, Biotecture
