2022 will be the 9th year that UKGBC convenes a group of Future Leaders comprised of committed, enthusiastic individuals presented with the challenge of confronting critical issues facing the industry, including the climate crisis, while working collaboratively to address them through the development of innovative ideas to inspire the radical transformation of the built environment.

The five-month Future Leaders programme is designed for forward-thinking professionals with 5-10 years’ experience – the cohort will work in teams and develop the capability and skills to drive radical transformation and sustainability, while progressing and boosting confidence in their own individual leadership journeys. They then return to their respective organisations equipped with this new thinking and inspiration, joining a leadership alumni of over 230 individuals and continuing to collaborate through involvement in the Future Leadership Forum.

Future Leaders are drawn from a range of backgrounds from the built environment sector, and are selected based on an enthusiasm to learn, an openness to new ways of thinking, and a desire to challenge the status quo. It is not a prerequisite to have sustainability in the job title – in fact the diversity of perspectives is crucial to the programme’s success.

See below for testimonials and impact stories.

“I have felt incredibly inspired and motivated during the Future Leaders course. It has raised my awareness of sustainability and leadership in the construction industry, what the struggles are, and what the unmet needs are. I am gaining an understanding of how I can help as an architect, identifying the barriers to implementing Net Zero designs, and how to advance decisions in the right direction. I’ve loved the format and the speakers; it has exceeded my expectations.” Andra Antone, Ryder Architecture

UKGBC’s Future Leader programme was a fantastic experience that allowed me to develop skills, connect with colleagues from across industry and most importantly, make some fantastic new friends! The course provides the participants with a supportive environment in which you are encouraged and guided in developing new skills and innovative ways to tackle challenges, as well as nurturing personal development activities. Working as part of a team to develop our innovation idea was a brilliant and truly collaborative journey, listening to and learning from other people’s perspective, trialing ideas together and ultimately delivering an engaging final product. I’d encourage anyone interested to join the course and enjoy the journey! – Matt Black, World GBC

“The Future Leaders 2020 programme has far exceeded any expectations. From working with a like-minded, supportive cohort of other Future Leaders to listening to a range of engaging speakers and industry professionals, has provided me with the vital skills of confidently and effectively communicating ideas – no matter how abstract! I would recommend the Future Leaders programme to those wanting to make a lasting and sustainable impact to our built environment.” – Matt Lindsay, Biotecture
