This year, UKGBC is celebrating a decade of the flagship Future Leaders programme with a special summer edition bringing together high-potential professionals from across the built environment industry to take part in a six-month journey to build skills in sustainability leadership and innovation.

The programme kicks off next week with a three day innovation workshop in Birmingham, hosted in partnership with Civic Square and Foresightfully.  The cohort will visit inspiring case studies of neighbourhood-scale retrofit projects and meet groups applying ‘doughnut economics’ as a framework in local projects. This workshop is followed by an residential leadership retreat in September and will culminate in a celebratory evening showcasing the cohort’s sustainability pitches to industry leaders in November.

In between these in person touchpoints, the cohort will join virtual check in sessions packed with inspirational speakers, skills workshops on innovation and leadership and 1:1 coaching. The programme takes participants on a journey to develop their innovative thinking, business idea development, personal leadership skills, collaboration and storytelling.

Future Leaders provides a forum for tomorrow’s leaders to grapple with the most critical issues that the sector will face in the future, and challenges participants to work collaboratively to address these. Graduates from the programme are invited to join the exclusive Future Leadership Forum network of over 270 leadership alumni, which brings opportunities for continued thought leadership right across the built environment value chain.

Decisions being made by built environment leaders today will shape the places we live, work and play in for many years to come. We urgently need to equip our sector with the skills to re-imagine and radically transform our industry, so that we can avert climate and nature breakdown and shape places that create healthier, happier communities.

Future Leaders is an exciting part of that story. Over five months we equip our sector’s brightest talent with the confidence, insights, skills, and relationships to develop their own leadership style, and drive positive change in their own organisations.

We look forward to welcoming the next cohort of passionate built environment professionals to the course.
