Our buildings need to be net zero carbon by 2050.  Key to achieving this aim is measuring our progress on buildings’ energy use and carbon emissions.

The government plans to introduce mandatory Performance-Based Ratings for all non-domestic buildings, starting in 2022 with large offices (>1000m2).  Building owners and large tenants will be required to measure and publicly report annually on their buildings’ energy consumption, similar to Australia’s NABERS scheme.

BEIS’s consultation on the proposed Performance-Based Ratings scheme ends on 9th June 2021.

UKGBC are running a briefing session for UKGBC members.   We will outline the Government’s proposals and present the draft UKGBC response to the consultation.  We are very keen to gather your views on the proposed scheme, helping to inform the UKGBC response to this critically important legislation.
