As part of the Advancing Net Zero programme, UKGBC has convened an industry task group to develop a definition for net zero carbon buildings in the UK.

The aim is to build consensus on a high level definition for net zero carbon buildings, which can then be used to inform project designs, reporting initiatives, planning requirements and building regulations. The primary focus is on achieving net zero for operational emissions based on in-use energy consumption, but the definition will also need to take account of embodied carbon to address whole life impacts.

The task group is being supported by the following industry organisations: BBP, BPF, BSRIA, CIBSE, Good Homes Alliance, LETI, Passivhaus Trust, REA, Revo, RIBA, RICS, Solar Trade Association and Sustainable Energy Association.

This London workshop forms part of a wider stakeholder consultation throughout February to inform the development of the definition. The workshop will be seeking feedback on the initial proposals that have been developed by the task group, with the final output from the task group expected to be published in April 2019.

This workshop is for industry, government and policy stakeholders; together with specialists in the built environment and sustainability.

We’re also hosting a stakeholder workshop in Manchester on 12th February 2019, please click here for details.
