UKGBC has decided to support The People’s Walk for Wildlife, which is being organised by the naturalist, TV presenter and conservationist Chris Packham. The event is to bring awareness to the huge loss in wildlife that the UK has experienced in the last few decades, and continues to occur. Our own report in 2017 highlighted this, showing a 56% decline in monitored species within the UK between 1970 and 2013.

UKGBC’s vision for a sustainable built environment that enables people and planet to thrive has five key elements, including “embracing and restoring nature and promoting biodiversity.” Our annual Sustainability 360 research into our Gold Leaf members’ aspirations and actions is currently underway, including a focus on biodiversity, with the findings publicly available in January within the Leading the Way report.

Meanwhile, we invite all individuals within our membership, their families and friends, to join together on Saturday September 22 in Hyde Park for The People’s Walk for Wildlife to celebrate the UK’s wildlife and raise awareness of its plight. You can find more information on the walk at its official webpage here.

If you would like to attend The People’s Walk for Wildlife please sign up on our event page here and we will email you nearer the time with our exact meeting place.
