Urbanomy UK Limited
Supporting urban development to transition towards a smarter and more sustainable future.
Overview of start-up
Urbanomy is an energy consultancy with a mission to accelerate Britain’s transition to net-zero through integrated urban and energy planning. It works across the public, private and third sectors with a variety of actors, including real estate developers, landowners, asset managers, architects, public bodies, and local and regional authorities. It adds value to cliens’ projects by identifying the right energy infrastructure to help them achieve their environmental, social, and economic goals.
What makes the start-up innovative
Research, development and innovation are at the heart of EDF. For nearly a decade, EDF R&D has been developing and testing new technologies and business models in the fields of low carbon generation, modelling and simulation, energy system design, smart cities, local energy systems, energy storage & efficiency and smart digital technology.
Urbanomy was created to apply the knowledge, expertise and tools developed by EDF R&D to real-world projects and challenges. Our modelling and 3D visualisation tools, in particular, give us the ability to:
- Quantify a new or existing development’s energy performance (e.g. energy demand and peaks, local energy generation, associated GHGH emissions, energy costs and revenues);
- Optimise a development’s design (e.g. energy solutions, management and systems); and
- Communicate the benefits of these solutions to key stakeholders and decision makers in a clear, compelling way
How the start-up has been designed to scale up quickly
Urbanomy launched after one year of incubation at EDF Pulse Croissance, the corporate venture and incubator of EDF Group. Urbanomy is born from the motivation and entrepreneurial spirit of its three co-founders and EDF’s commitment to take on climate change and act on the energy transition without compromising quality of life.
