UKGBC is offering short-to mid-term intern opportunities which enables newcomers to the industry gain exciting and valuable experiences in promoting sustainability across the UK built environment value chain. The open invitation to apply offers young people and early career candidates in particular the opportunity to benefit from taking part in our wide-ranging work; enabling them to develop a breadth of skills, experience, and connections over short term employment (ranging from a few weeks during school or university breaks to longer-periods, dependent on candidates’ experience).

We regularly have intern opportunities across all of our teams; with placements appearing within our marketing and communications work, in our industry transformation, insights and solutions, and/or policy teams, supporting our learning and leadership events, or in our business operations department – within finance, people and/or membership.  

If successful, you could find yourself – for example – making positive impact in supporting the creation of new, industry leading, sustainable frameworks and guidance for businesses, discovering new exciting solutions and innovations, helping to create content with our dynamic comms team, or supporting our well-regarded Events and Leadership training programmes.  

To succeed in this role, you will be passionate about sustainability, have strong administration skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to thrive in a busy working environment. Interns at UKGBC must be over 18 and legally allowed to work in the UK.  

Key Competencies and experience 

Essential 

  • Strong administrative skills with good attention to detail. 
  • Creative and analytical thinking. 
  • Able to be proactive and deliver tasks efficiently and on time. 
  • Able to communicate professionally via phone, email and face to face. 
  • Strong academic record. 
  • Good communication skills, both speaking and writing. 
  • Competent use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Demonstrable interest in sustainability and/or built environment. 

Desirable 

  • Knowledge of corporate sustainability practice and issues facing the built environment. 
  • Knowledge of construction and property sector. 
  • Client/ customer management experience. 
  • Experience of Salesforce and WordPress.
