Problem Addressed

Construction waste.

Overview Of Start-up

Akustak® is a British made, acoustic modular wall system; granted a UK patent in 2020. Specified on numerous high-profile music production and podcast studio builds; clients include Steven Bartlett and the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.

Designed for materials optimisation and off-site construction, Akustak® minimises waste during manufacture and installation, whilst its unique demountable form facilitates recovery and reuse.

Prefabricated and portable, Akustak® radically reduces construction timescales, with configurations installed from 15 m2 / per hour.

Akustak® has been laboratory tested for fire safety (BS EN ISO 1364-1) and resistance to sound (BS EN ISO 10140-2 & 717-1), guaranteeing Building Regulations – Part B and E compliance.

What Makes The Start-up Innovative

Akustak® was granted a UK patent in 2020, for its unique modular design.

This design radically transforms the construction of interior walls, notably, in terms of the following:

  1. Quick & easy on-site access: Measuring < 0.8 m2/ 25 kg, per module, Akustak® can be safely manually handled by one man (as per HSE guidelines), fitting through narrow staircases and corridors and inside elevators.
  2. Rapid installation: Prefabricated and portable, Akustak® transforms interior wall construction into a rapid process of assembly; from 15 m2 / per hour.
  3. Minimised noise, dust & disruption on-site: Manufactured off-site, Akustak® minimises trades and site activities; typically, installations require one fitter, a cordless drill and basic hand tools. This too, enhances health and safety standards on-site, including Covid-19 infection prevention and control.
  4. Zero avoidable waste: Designed for materials optimisation and off-site construction, Akustak® eliminates over-ordering and expendable off-cuts, during manufacture and installation. Moreover, its unique demountable form, facilitates recovery and reuse.
  5. End-user flexibility: ply-lined, as standard, Akustak® enables secure surface-mounted fixtures and fittings, e.g. radiators, shelving units, tv brackets, etc…, without the need for reinforcements and/or wall plugs, whilst alternative fascias are available, for greater robustness, ease of disassembly and/or decorative effect.

How The Start-up Has Been Designed To Scale Up Quickly

Modules are manufactured to a standardised size (670 mm x 1200 mm); formed, entirely, of parts dimensionally coordinated with universal sheet/slab sizes. As such, Akustak® lends itself perfectly to mass production; supported by two fully equipped, UK-based production lines. In-house software, enables rapid calculation of module quantities and dimensions, based on overall wall heights and widths.

A UK patent mitigates dilution of market share from copycat manufacturers and suppliers. The option to expand through licensing, for more rapid growth, is currently under consideration/development.
