2023 will be the 10th year that UKGBC convenes a group of Future Leaders comprised of committed, enthusiastic individuals presented with the challenge of confronting critical issues facing the industry, including the climate crisis. Participants work collaboratively to address them through the development of innovative ideas to inspire the radical transformation of the built environment.

The six-month Future Leaders programme is designed for forward-thinking professionals with 5-10 years’ experience – the cohort will work in teams and develop the capability and skills to drive radical transformation and sustainability while progressing and boosting confidence in their own individual leadership journeys. They then return to their respective organisations equipped with this new thinking and inspiration, joining a leadership alumni of over 270 individuals and continuing to collaborate through involvement in the Future Leadership Forum.

The 2023 programme

Part 1: Explore and initiate 2.5 day Workshop (London) 24 January –  26 January 2023

Sustainability and Radical transformation

Part 2: Develop and refine 2 day Retreat (Stroud) 22 – 23 March 2023

Personal Leadership

Part 3: Action 1 day Showcase event (London) 15 June 2023

There will also be three virtual touch points: 13 Jan (Kick-off), 2 March, 27 April

Participants will benefit from a range of expert inputs and high profile keynote speakers, and will work to develop an innovation idea on key built environment sustainability challenges which are developed through the programme.

Future Leaders are drawn from a range of backgrounds from the built environment sector, and are selected based on an enthusiasm to learn, an openness to new ways of thinking, and a desire to challenge the status quo. It is not a prerequisite to have sustainability in the job title – in fact the diversity of perspectives is crucial to the programme’s success.

This programme is designed to inspire the next generation of leaders who will transform the sustainability of the built environment. This transformation will not come about by business as usual, but through a radical and fundamental shift, in which sustainability and innovative thinking are strategic drivers. See below for a taste of the programme’s impact as shown in a video of the 2022 Innovation Showcase event.
