This guidance document is intended to help developers and project teams set strategies at the outset of any project to streamline the delivery of net zero carbon buildings. It identifies barriers that are likely to emerge through RIBA Stages 0-7 and provides associated opportunities for how these can be overcome.

The guidance builds on Building the Case for Net Zero: A feasibility study into the design, delivery and cost of new net zero carbon buildings which found that achieving net zero carbon buildings will require re-conceptualising the current delivery process. This document helps to provide answers by identifying recommended changes to the delivery process to unlock a ‘glide path’ for net zero carbon buildings.

A total of 17 barriers and associated opportunities have been identified and grouped into four key themes: Design, Cost, Stakeholder Engagement, and Innovation.
